The parametric equations of a parabola are x=t^2 +1, y= 2t+1. What is the Cartesian equation of its directrix?

It is given that 

x = t2 +1 ...(1)

y = 2t + 1 ...(2)

From (1) and (2), we get

(– 1)= 4 (x – 1) ...(3)

Let Y = – 1 and  X = x – 1

Then from equation (3) we have

⇒ Y2 = 4X

Equation of the directrix for parabola Y2 = 4is:

X = –1

⇒ x – 1 –1

⇒ x = 0

This is the required equation of directrix.
