The development of textile industry in India can be traced in the following stages :
(i) First cotton mill came up in Bombay in 1854.
(ii) Around the 1860s, jute mills came up in Bengal.
(iii) These were followed by mills in Kanpur, Ahmedabad, and Maclras.
