Solution:

Given that,Tension in string, T = 40N , mass of string, m = 5gm = 0.005 kg ,length of the string, l = 10 m ,  v = ?

We know that velocity of a transverse wave on a string is given by,  v = √(T/μ)

where, t is tension in string & μ is the mass per unit length

μ = mass/length = 0.005/10 = 0.0005 kg/m

v = √(40/0.0005) = √80000 = 2√2 x 102 m/sec

Hence, Velocity v = 2√2 x 102 m/sec
