The rise of London as an industrial and modern city:
(i) Industrialization changed the form of urbanization in the modern period.
(ii) The earlier industrial cities of Britain such as Leeds and Manchester attracted large no. of migrants to the textile mills set up in the late 18th century.
(iii) London was a colossal city and its population expanded four-fold from 1 million to 4 millions as the Industrial Revolution attracted more and more people.
(iv) The city of London was a powerful magnet for migrant populations, even though it did not have large factories.
