In October 2005, the government of India enacted a law, popularly known as RTI or Right to Information Act, which ensures its citizens all the information about the functions of the government departments. Advantages of the right to be informed are:
(i) On the basis of this right, consumers can now lodge a complaint and ask for compensation or replacement, if the product is found defective in any manner.
(ii) On account of RTI Act, a consumer is empowered to ask for any relevant information related to his queries speedily.
(iii) Serious follow up on the matter as per the act also benefits the consumer, who gets lawfully what he desires.
