Underground railways were able to solve transport problems as well as housing crisis.

(i) The underground railways carried a large number of people to and from London and solved the transport problem.

(ii) The labour could live in suburbs only as housing was not affordable in London, and they can easily travel to their work place with railways.

(iii) The underground partly solved the housing crisis and carried large masses of people to and from London .

(iv) The population in the city became more dispersed.
