A circle is inscribed in a DABC having sides 8 cm, 10 cm and 12 cm as shown in figure. Find AD, BE and CF.

We know that the tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal. Therefore,

Let AD = AF = x; BD = BE = y and CE = CF = z
Now, AB = 12 cm, BC = 8 cm and CA = 10 cm

Hence, AD = x = 7 cm, BE = y = 5 cm and CF = z = 3 cm
