Helen Keller was an American author, political activist and a lecturer. She was the first deaf blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Helen Keller converted her disability into her special ability. Helen Keller was born on June 17, 1880 in Tuscumbia. She lost her eyesight and hearing after an illness when she was just nineteen months old. Although her disability left her shattered. She achieved a lot in her life with her will power, dedication and focus.
Helen though deaf and blind did not want to depend on others. Even before her teacher came, Helen used to spend her time in the garden and feel the flowers and plants to comfort herself. Again later in life when Helen started reading books she preferred doing on her own than have Miss Sullivan read the stories to her.
Since childhood, Helen was curious to earn and know about the things around her. Helen travelled to various places with her teacher and learned about them. She did not consider anything difficult enough to learn, be it reading, speaking or writing. Helen managed to study subjects like Latin, French, Algebra and Geometry due to her focus and goal in life.
Helen was always interested in learning new things. When she was accused of Plagiarism, she felt disgraced, but she cut this incident behind and started to write again. Helen Keller thus triumphed over adversity to become world famous and her struggle is a source of inspiration to millions of people all over the world.
