Give reason as to why the atomic radii of elements increase in a group while moving from top to bottom ?

The atomic radii of elements increase in a group while moving from top to bottom because a new shell is being added  when we go down a group. This increases the distance between the outermost electrons and the nucleus so as to increase the atomic size in spite of increase in nuclear charge.
