We have two kinds of instincts: One is of civilised social education and the other natural human instinct. The first one is irrational and later one is rational and always correct.
We often have conflict between these two and unfortunately, we have to listen to the civilised social education, whose notions are not logical. We all know that snakes are wild, poisonous beings and the very sight of a snake fills us with horror. We are afraid and our instinct tells us it must be killed otherwise it might harm us. The same thing happened with the poet in the poem ‘Snake’. Though he was honoured to see the snake, he threw a log at the snake listening to the so called ‘social education.’
If once we get rid ourselves of our fear and overcome the sinister feelings generated within ourselves, we will experience an entire different emotion. We should listen to our human instinct, which says that all the creatures of the world has equal right to live here. Whenever we do any thoughtless act, we have to repent. So, we should always go with our reason.
