Otto Frank was Anne’s father. Anne was deeply attached to him. Anne always looked up to her father as it was only through him that she was able to retain the family bonds. However, Anne’s deep attachment to her father also reveals her jealousy of her elder sister, Margot. Anne writes, “I don’t love anyone in the world but him.” Otto Frank is an individual, who never runs away from the responsibilities. His wife and both of his daughters are well taken care of by him. When the S.S. sends a call up notice for Margot, he arranges for the family to move into the hiding so that his daughter Margot is not taken away by the Germans. He had been arranging to move into hiding along with his family for a long time, as Anne records in her diary. Besides, Mr. Otto Frank does maintain a standard of living, even in the hiding. Mrs. Frank and both their daughters are provided with books to keep their knowledge updated. The children in the family do a course in shorthand. Margot even opts for a course in Latin. Besides, Mr. Frank takes care that the ‘Secret Annexe’ is furnished as far as he can make arrangements at the time the family moves into the hiding. Thus, Otto Frank comes out to be an ideal husband and father.
