It is the first element of ‘Astanga yaga.’ Through the practice of yama one can abstain from stealing, lying, cheating, killing and other exploitative behaviour, various elements like ahimsa, satya, Astaya, Brahmacharya and Aparigraha etc. are excluded in this.
