Enthalpy of combustion of carbon to CO2 is –393.5 KJmol–1 . Calculate the heat released upon the formation of 35.2 g of CO2 from carbon and dioxygen gas.

Heat released when 44g CO2 is formed = 393.5 KJ 

Hence heat released when 35.2g CO2 is formed= 393.5 × 35.2/44 = 314.8 KJ
