When neutral wire and live wire come in contact accidentally, short circuit occurs. This causes a very heavy amount of current to pass through the circuit.

When Short-circuit occurs, a new electrical path is created with least resistance which causes maximum amount of current to pass through that path and lead to damage of electrical circuit.
