Magnesium is heated in flame for sometime before it catches fire and burns to form magnesium oxide with the release of large amount of heat and light energy. Is the reaction exothermic or endothermic? Explain your answer.

Burning of magnesium wire is an exothermic reaction as during the reaction there is emission of energy in the form of heat and light.
