India is an important iron and steel producing country in the world, yet we are not able to perform to our full potential because of the following reasons:
(i) Iron and steel industry is the basic industry. Since all other industries — heavy, medium and light depend on it for their machinery.
(ii) But its high cost and limited availability of coking coal is one of the reasons for not performing to our full potential.
(iii) Low productivity of labour as labour is lazy and unable to perform to its full potential. (iv) Irregular supply of energy is also responsible for low productivity.
