A Woman at Platform No. 11

A boy of eleven, first time travelling alone met a stranger woman. It was the first time that he was travelling alone. He was very nervous sitting on his bag waiting for his train.

Beside him was sitting a lady in white Saree. She was looking like a gentlewoman. The lady came to the boy and said, “Son, why are you looking so upset.” The boy said, “First time I am travelling alone. I am nervous.”

The woman was about fifty years old. She saw, “Don’t worry, there will be many passengers. You will not be alone.” The woman was a stranger for the boy but she was taking care of the boy like her son. She talked to the boy in a very friendly manner that reduced the nervousness of the boy. The train arrived, they boarded in the train. The woman offered him tea and snacks. At first the boy hesitated but then he accepted the offer. She helped him to feel comfortable. The boy thought the journey would be boring but with the woman it was a happy journey. They talked about everything.

Soon the train stopped at the station where the woman had to get off. The woman held the hand of the boy told him to be always happy, and said, “Good bye son”. The boy also waved his hand and said “Good bye friend.”
